Anthony served as the Assistant Director of the CAMEL lab from 2015-2017 under Dr. Emily Hammer, and as Acting Director from 2017-2022. During his time in the lab, he oversaw the migration of CAMEL’s digital collection into the ISAC Integrated Database, as well as numerous research projects utilizing satellite remote sensing, aerial photography, and geospatial datasets. Anthony was Senior Analyst for Prof. Gil Stein’s Afghan Heritage Mapping Partnership (AHMP) and as part of that project carried out research in automatic detection and the recording of previously undocumented archaeological sites. He has taught courses and workshops on archaeological GIS, remote sensing, survey methods, and geophysics.

Currently Anthony is the manager of the C.H. Nash Museum at the University of Memphis. He holds an MA and PhD from the University of Chicago, and has conducted field survey and excavation in Sicily, Turkey, Palestine, Naxcivan, and Western North Carolina. He continues to collaborate with the CAMEL lab and monitor the cultural heritage of Afghanistan.

Andrew works as a senior research analyst at the Forum for Digital Culture at the University of Chicago and is an experienced field archaeologist with expertise in GIS, photogrammetry/3D modeling, and digital data management. He holds a BA in archaeology from Lycoming College and an MA in Middle Eastern studies from the University of Chicago. He has conducted archaeological fieldwork in Cyprus, Turkey, Israel/Palestine, Iraq, and Spain. He is also an Associate Director of the American Expedition to Idalion, Cyprus.

Andrew worked in the CAMEL Lab in 2019-2022 as the project manager of the Afghan Heritage Mapping Partnership (AHMP). There, he oversaw the cataloging of previously unrecorded cultural heritage sites that were found manually using remote sensing data and detected automatically using deep learning. His work also involved capacity building initiatives for the Archaeology Institute of Afghanistan. He still collaborates with the CAMEL Lab to conduct workshops in the latest methods of archaeological excavation and digital recording.
