Equipment > > Lab Rules
- The lab is open at designated times as specified on the CAMEL Lab Website during the academic year. Changes in operating hours are expected, so, please check our websites daily before coming.
- If you need to access the lab outside staffed open hours, contact the Lab Director (Dr. Mehrnoush Soroush, mehrnoush@uchicago.edu).
- All users must fill out our usage google form before starting their work, either on a lab computer or on their personal laptop.
- Make sure to sign out of lab computers when you are done or are going to be away for more than 30 minutes.
- You are not allowed under any circumstances to save your files to the hard drives of the lab machines. Files can be downloaded onto the computer, but must be copied to a personal storage device and then deleted from the lab computer. This is to help us save space on machines and prevent any malicious files.
- Graduate and Undergraduate Students working on long-term GIS projects can put in an application for a Workspace folder with the CAMEL Lab Supervisor.
- Should all computers be in use, you may be asked to make room for certain users (CAMEL Staff/Researchers, ISAC/MES Faculty & Staff) at certain machines.
- NOTE: This rule only applies if you are not actively using lab machines for any GIS or related lab software.
- You may not eat food in the lab. Food must be consumed in the lounge next door or elsewhere. Drinks in bottles or lidded containers are, however, permitted.
- When leaving the lab make sure that you:
- Save all your files to an external hard drive or usb.
- Sign out of the computer completely, do not switch it off.
- Make sure that the lab space is as clean as it was when you first used it.
- CAMEL Lab Staff are on hand to assist you with accessing lab machines as well as for consultation in regards to GIS problems or research projects. For GIS coursework, apart from general technical troubleshooting, please direct your issues/questions to your course’s teaching staff.
